Concept Map for WebQuest

Im back...

Sorry that I have been out of the loop lately, due to personal reasons (family tragedy). I am dealing with it, talking and staying close with my family members. This is so key when someone loses a family member, is the support. Family support is so incredibly important when this tragedy happens. I am grateful that I have that. I will it at that.....
So back to my wacky world of the Web Quest assignment. I had mentioned before what is was going to be about. I would like to elaborate it on a little more. The Web Quest source will teach students that not all First Nations people in Canada had the same kind of dwelling/ housing prior to European contact. The assumption of mainstream society is that all First Nations people lived in teepees, however this is not the case. The main focus of this lesson is to teach the students five different types of First Nations dwellings in different parts of Canada. Anthropologists and scientists have categorized six major cultural regions that the First Nations people inhabit throughout Canada. The six major cultural regions will be identified within the Web Quest page. This will be the website that I will refer to; http://www.canadiangeographic.ca/atlas/themes.aspx?id=first&sub=first_cultures_subarctic&lang=En.
These five types of dwellings will be categorized with each of the six cultural regions within this Web Quest.
I have utilized the Saskatchewan Curriculum Native Studies 10 at; http://www.sasklearning.gov.sk.ca/docs/native10/index.html#Soc.
First Nations dwellings/housing is a major part of First Nation identity, culture, and worldview. For my next blog I will be sharing a concept map on my topic for the Web Quest assignment.

clarification and excuses

I will be addressing and reflecting more on the questions regarding the Web Quest assignment. I sometimes start at the gate, so to say, slow, like the turtle. Slowly but surely I always accomplish my goals in the end. I was quite ill last week and a bit busy with other endeavors at home and had other things on my mind last week, excuses aside, for my next blog I will be getting in depth with answering my Web Quest questions. Today there is a powwow at Griffith's Stadium and will be participating in it later on in the day. With that on my mind I leave it with that.....

Web Quest idea

For my Web Quest assignment I chose the topic of traditional First Nations dwellings in Canada. I found it quite common that if you ask a student of what kind of dwelling that First Nations lived in before contact the answer would be a teepee. This however is totally untrue. First Nation people across Canada have different dwellings because of the different climates they lived in. So basically my Web Quest idea would be explaining different types of dwellings First Nations across Canada utilized. I think this would eliminate the misconception of that all First Nations people lived in teepees and rid of this confusion and some stereotypes that persons may have.

Weekend update and start of a new week

This past weekend was great!! I got a couple rounds of golf in this weekend--whoo hoo!! The sun is shining and so is my attitude and health. This flu or chill or whatever I had last week is gone and I feel a heck of a lot better. In my past few blog's I have mentioned a little bit about myself pertaining to where I am from and some ambitions of why I want to become a teacher. Right now I am training to become a secondary teacher in the ITEP program at the University of Saskatchewan. I have attained my B.A, with distinction, last year from the First Nations University of Canada. I have an Indigenous Studies degree and Indian Art history degree. These are the two areas of study that I will be teaching after I am finished my teaching degree. For my WebQuest assignment I will be focusing on a grade 10 Native Studies level. I will be utilizing the Aboriginal Education Curriculum/Resource in the Saskatchewan Curriculum website. In my next blog I will be explaining my topic, so stay tuned.....

Feeling a bit better, however....

Today I feel a bit better, I don't feel as weak and my headache is gone, which is a good sign. However, it is still raining!!! It is the darn rain that got me sick in the first place. Besides that, I am going to attempt and choose the WebQuest assignment for my ECMM 470-02 class. During my future blogs I will be answering some questions pertaining to the WebQuest assignment. I don't really have anything to add and I will end it at that........

Who I am and where I come from

I grew up in a traditional household on the Yellow Quill First Nation reserve. Yellow Quill is situated near the town of Kelvington, SK. I am 32 years old. I decided to become a teacher because I am seeing so much of our youth on Yellow Quill losing their language and traditions and losing interest in school. I want to go back home and help the youth gain an interest in school and help them get in touch with their culture. I am not saying that I am going to go and change every student to grasp my ambitions, as long as I even reach one student then I know I made a difference in achieving my goals. I am not sure if I am making sense, I am feeling a little bit under the weather and I am still wondering what the heck I am doing here....so until next time......
